TJC Sophomore Spotlight: Sydney Malmstrom

With junior college sports canceled, the Tyler Morning Telegraph is profiling Tyler Junior College sophomores. Today’s female spotlight is on Sydney Malmstrom, a member of the 2019 TJC national champion soccer team.

Sports you play: Soccer

Favorite TJC sports memory: Winning the 2019 National Championship with my greatest friends and seeing all of my loved ones who came to support me!

Who is your favorite teacher? My 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Ritter

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? In 10 years I hope to be practicing pediatric physical therapy in a hospital, and having a family!

Something about yourself that most people don’t know: I have hemihypertrophy which made one of my legs longer than the other when I was born, but in fourth grade I had corrective surgery to fix it. Now they’re the same length!

What will you miss most about TJC? I will miss the unique and diverse culture we had on the team and all of the girls who have uplifted me and made me better, and the coaches who have continued to push me to new levels.

Statistics: Malmstrom started all 23 games for the Apache Ladies, leading the squad to a 22-1 record, giving up just 12 goals while making 47 saves. She had five individual shutouts and a total of 12 when sharing in the clean sheet.
