How to watch every Texas team in March Madness

The March Madness brackets for the men’s and women’s NCAA tournaments have been revealed. TCU’s Big 12 title victory earned them an automatic bid and a No. 2 seed. This seed earned the Horned Frogs the right to host the first two games in their region.

How many other teams from Texas made the field and when will they start their NCAA Tournament? Here’s a look:

Men

Texas

Record: 19-15 (6-12)



Region: No. 11 seed in the Midwest Regional

Season recap: The Longhorns struggled in conference this season, going 6-12 in the SEC, but they won five games over ranked opponents, including two over rival Texas A&M, which helped them secure a spot in the First Four.

Player to watch: Former Richardson Lake Highlands star Tre Johnson was selected as SEC Freshman of the Year and earned a second-team All-SEC selection. Johnson averaged 19.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. Johnson is expected to be a top pick in the NBA Draft this year should he declare after the end of the season.

Opponent: No. 11 seed Xavier in a First Four game which pits eight of the lowest ranked teams to make the tournament against each other in a play-in game for the right to play in the first round. The teams playing in the First Four games are the Musketeers, Longhorns, UNC, San Diego State, American, Mount St. Mary’s, Alabama State and St. Francis (PA).

Time: 8:10 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19 (truTV).

Houston

Record: 30-4 (19-1)

Region: No. 1 seed in the Midwest Regional

Season recap: The Cougars won the Big 12 title getting redemption for last season’s blowout loss in the tournament final after dominating the conference. Houston was the Big 12’s best defensive team giving up 58.5 points per game, more than six points better than second-place West Virginia.

Player to watch: LJ Cryer was a scholar athlete and an All-Big 12 selection for the third year in a row. The guard who hails from Katy, led Houston in scoring and three-pointers made this season.

Opponent: No. 16 seed SIU Edwardsville got to the tournament for the first time in school history by beating Southeast Missouri 69-48 in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.

Time: 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 20 (TBS).

Texas A&M

Record: 22-10 (11-7)

Region: Fourth seed in the South Regional

Season recap: Head coach Buzz Williams won at least 20 games for the fourth straight season and will make his third straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Aggies made history with their win over No. 1 Auburn, marking their first-ever win over a team ranked No. 1 overall in the AP Poll.

Player to watch: A Dallas native, Wade Taylor IV earned a first-team All-SEC Conference selection for the third season in a row at the guard position after averaging 15.7 points, 4.3 assists, 3.2 rebounds.

Opponent: No. 13 seeded Yale, one of the most physical teams in the country, the Bulldogs made the tournament by winning their second straight Ivy League championship.

Time: 6:25 p.m. on Thursday, March 20 (TBS).

Texas Tech

Record: 25-8 (16-4)

Region: No. 3 seed in the West Regional

Season recap: In his second season at the helm, head coach Grant McCasland led the Red Raiders to 20 wins and an NCAA Tournament for the second straight season for the first time since the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

Player to watch: JT Toppin, like Hailey Van Lithh, won Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, Player of the Year and was a first-team All-Big 12 selection. Toppin could be selected in the upcoming NBA Draft but figures as a late-round pick.

Opponent: No. 14 seed University of North Carolina Wilmington will make its first tournament appearance since 2017 after winning the 2025 Coastal Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Championship.

Time: 9:10 p.m. on Thursday, March 20 (truTV).

Baylor

Record: 19-4 (10-10)

Region: No. 9 seed in the East Regional

Season recap: A dominant home (13-3) team, the Bears only lost three games at home during the season but struggled greatly away from Waco with only six of their wins coming from the road (3-9) and neutral sites (3-2).

Player to watch: VJ Edgecombe is an expected top pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and was Big 12 Freshman of the Year for the Bears. Edgecombe averaged 15.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists and will look to get Baylor beyond the second round for the first time since the Bears won the title in the 2021 season.

Opponent: No. 8 seeded Mississippi State led by first-team All-SEC selection Tolu Smith III who will try and lead the team to the Round of 32 for the first time since 2008.

Time: 11:15 a.m. on Friday, March 21 (CBS).

Women

Stephen F. Austin

Record: 26-5 (16-4)

Region: No. 14 seed in the Birmingham 3 region

Season recap: The Ladyjacks beat the No. 1 seed in their conference, Southeastern Louisiana, to earn their spot in the NCAA Tournament, their first since the 2022 season.

Player to watch: Trinity Moore scored 14 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, three blocks, and two steals in the team’s championship victory before being named Southland Conference Tournament MVP.

Opponent: Will play a Notre Dame team that surprised some by being awarded a No. 3 seed in the tournament after struggling to finish the season after a dominant run that saw them reach the No. 1 ranking in the AP Poll.

Time: 1 p.m. on Friday, March 21 (ESPN).

TCU

Record: 31-3 (16-2)

Region: No. 2 seed in the Birmingham 3 region

Season recap: TCU only lost three games all season and only two in-conference on its way to its first Big 12 title in school history. TCU will host a game for the first time in March Madness History and look to continue its historic season.

Player to watch: Sedona Prince was one of the top centers in the nation this season earning first-team honors in the Big 12. She was also a finalist for the Lisa Leslie Award which goes out annually to the top center in women’s college basketball.

Opponent: No. 10 seed Nebraska will look to ride the Big 10’s top three-point shooting offense (37.3%) to an upset victory over the Horned Frogs.

Time: 2:30 p.m. on Friday, March 21 (ESPN2).

Baylor

Record: 27-7 (15-3)

Region: No. 4 seed in the Spokane Region

Season recap: The Bears were a top team in the Big 12, only losing three games in the conference. They finished second to the Horned Frogs for the regular and postseason Big 12 league standings.

Player to watch: Darianna Littlepage-Buggs missed the Big 12 title championship game with an injury after the first-team All-Big 12 guard had a career season with more minutes (29.5), points (14.3), rebounds (10.5) and assists (2.3) than last season.

Opponent: The Bears will play Grand Canyon University (30-2) playing in their first NCAA Tournament in program history.

Time: 2:30 p.m. on Friday, March 21 (ESPNU).

Texas

Record: 31-3 (15-1)

Region: No. 1 seed in the Birmingham 3 region

Season recap: The Longhorn women dominated all season, finishing ranked No. 5 in the country. Texas only lost one game all season in the SEC conference on their way to co-wining the SEC with South Carolina. However, the Gamecocks beat the Longhorns to win the postseason title.

Player to watch: Madison Booker won the Cheryl Miller Award which is given annually to the top small forward in the country. Booker was also the SEC Player of the Year, her second straight season bringing in Player of the Year honors.

Opponent: The Longhorns will play the winner of the first four matchup between High Point University and William and Mary.

Time: 8:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 22 (ESPN2).
