Lions and Tigers, with no Bears, will be tangling in a high school football scrimmage on Friday in Tyler.

The Tyler Lions and the Terrell Tigers will meet on Earl Campbell Field at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.

The junior and freshmen teams are slated start at 6 p.m. and continue through 7 p.m. Their scrimmages will be conducted simultaneously.

The varsity squads are slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.

The format for the varsity includes:

— Ball will be spotted on the 35-yard line to begin each series.

— Each team will have three downs to make a first down, unless inside the 20-yard line.

— There will also be a kicking segment and one quarter of game situation.

— If the offense fails to record a first down, the ball will return to the 35-yard line.

— When the offense is inside the 10-yard line the possession will continue until the offense scores or the defense holds, regardless of the play count.

— Interceptions and fumbles lost will result in the play being blown dead and the football returned to the 35-yard line.

— With the exception of field goals and extra point attempts, there will be no special teams play. Field goal attempts will count as a play, extra point attempts will not.

The first-team offense and defense will go up against each other for 12 plays each. Then the second-team offense and defense will go against each other for eight plays.

A kicking segment will follow: Tyler punt vs. Terrell rush (3 snaps); Tyler rush vs. Terrell punt (3 snaps); Tyler FG/PAT vs. Terrell rush (3 snaps); Tyler rush vs. Terrell FG/PAT (3 snaps); Tyler kickoff vs. Terrell kickoff return (2 snaps) and Tyler KOR vs. Terrell KO (2 snaps).

The teams will then have a game situation:

— One regular quarter with normal game rules.

— Tyler on offense first.

— All extra points and field goals will have a live rush.

— No returns on punts and no rush on punts.

— No kickoffs, ball will be spotted at the 35-yard line.

— All penalties will be marked off.
