John Tyler Lions dominate with big plays to beat Wylie East 51-3 on homecoming

The John Tyler football team dominated the homecoming court before kickoff and then Wylie East on Friday night on Earl Campbell Field.
Running back Cameron Grant (Homecoming King), Tyrell Jones (Prince) and Devlen Woods (Duke) reigned prior to the game and took the reins during the contest in leading JT to a 51-3 victory over the Raiders before 4,000 fans at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.

Also, Christian Hartsfield had 3 1/2 sacks for a minus-26 yards. Also, Tyrone Williams and Kimbrick McCaney had sacks with Ja’Bralen Yarber and Jarrius Lane making two tackles for losses, while Grant added one.
JT improved to 3-2 on the season and 2-0 in District 7-5A Division I play, while Wylie East fell to 1-5 and 0-2.
For the second straight week the Lions totaled around 500 yards, this week 493 and held the Raiders to 62 yards rushing and a total of 262 yards.
The Lions used the big play with Woods tossing three TD passes — 13 yards to K’Lon Warren, 68 yards to Kitan Crawford and 74 yards to Ke’Andre Street.
The 68-yard TD was a forward pitch to Crawford on a jet sweep. Later, Crawford scored on a 71-yard gallop.
Also, Michael Hogg Jr. made an impact for the second straight week with a 59-yard punt return that helped the Lions to a 27-0 lead in the second quarter. Last week in Texarkana, his 28-yard punt return set up a touchdown.

Also, Ka’Darian Asbell dashed into the end zone from 55 yards and Frankie Sanchez added a 29-yard field goal.
Along with his three TD passes, Woods scored on a 1-yard keeper.
The Raiders averted a shutout when Nicholas Figueroa booted a 30-yard field goal.
The Lions’ offensive line of Chance Billington, Braylon Johnson, Angel Sarmiento, Victor Gomez and Yarber opened holes to help JT rush for 292 yards.
The Lions travel to Mesquite next Friday to face West Mesquite at E.H. Hanby Stadium. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
