Less talk, more action needed from Cowboys

Please stop, Jerry.
Please stop talking about Super Bowls when it comes to this team. Please stop publicly supporting this underachieving coaching staff — especially the morning after another humbling performance.

Tuesday’s news of the Cowboys owner standing by defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin came at the wrong possible time. His remarks followed a game in which the Cowboys yielded 45 points to a career backup and allowed an average Bears team to score on eight straight possessions. They came at a time when a frustrated Cowboys fan base needs much more than binoculars to find the light at the end of the tunnel.
Especially when Monte Kiffin’s defense is a huge reason the Cowboys fell behind the Philadelphia Eagles for first place in the NFC East. Especially when Kiffin is the guy Jones handpicked in the offseason to right the ship for an already struggling defense.
“To be doing what we’re doing and to fix what we’re doing, there’s nobody I would rather have than him and (defensive line coach) Rod Marinelli,” Jones said on his Tuesday radio show. “Where we are today, to get this fixed over the next, if you would, week or four or five days, the next three weeks, there’s nobody I would rather have to get it fixed.
“First of all, he knows what’s happening to us better than anyone. And if there are adjustments to be made, he’s the right man for the job right now.”
Please stop, Tony.
Please stop telling us what the Cowboys need to do in the future. Please just go out and quarterback your team to doing so.

All the talk about going back to work and preparing for the next opponent and getting better is ultimately resulting in hot air. Time and time again.
“We’ve got to win out,” Tony Romo told ESPNDallas.com after Monday night’s game. “That’s our approach. We need to do that. I think we have that mindset.”
Monday night’s 45-28 loss to the Bears was yet another example of the up-and-down Cowboys. A third straight win would’ve moved them to 8-5 and back into a tie with the surging Eagles atop the division standings.
Instead, the Cowboys delivered their second blowout road loss in the last month and still have the always-dreaded December month to go through. They have home games remaining this week against the Green Bay Packers and the regular-season finale against the Eagles. Sandwiched between them is a road game against the imploding Redskins.
This Sunday Robert E. Lee graduate Matt Flynn is preparing for another start in place of injured quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Two nights ago Jacksonville High School graduate Josh McCown got another start in place of injured Bears quarterback Jay Cutler.
McCown finished the night with 348 yards and four touchdowns passing with no interceptions. He also ran for a score and became only the second quarterback in franchise history to throw for more than 300 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions.
Thus a big performance by Flynn against Kiffin’s defense would be the second in a row by an East Texan. Maybe that would hit home just how bad Kiffin’s last-ranked defense has been.
A loss to the Packers — who are still fighting for a postseason berth themselves — could leave Romo telling everyone about how the Cowboys’ goal is to win out and finish 9-7.
Instead of finishing 8-8 for the third consecutive season.
