Lee’s Winchester, Bowden on all-12-5A volleyball first team

Rockwall-Heath rampaged through District 12-5A this past season, going unbeaten while dropping only one game in its 12 league matches.

The all-district team reflects the Lady Hawks’ dominance. Led by Most Valuable Player Regina Tillis, Heath grabbed four superlative spots with second-place Rockwall, its only two district losses coming to Heath, grabbing the other three.

Heath went on to reach the regional semifinals with Rockwall going out in area. Both third-place Mesquite Horn and fourth-place Robert E. Lee were stopped in the first round of the playoffs.

As for the Lady Raiders, junior libero Taylor Winchester and senior middle Rebekah Bowden were chosen first team with senior setter Nicole Trpkosh and junior outside hitter Claire Himes named to the second team.

Winchester led Lee 687 digs while finishing second on the team with 42 aces. Bowden paced the Lady Raiders in blocks (80) and was second in kills with 205. Himes was the team’s leading hitter with 250 kills and also finished with 120 digs.

Lee also had four players earn honorable mention: senior defensive specialist Mallori Dike, junior setter Genesis Borens, junior outside hitter DaJah Thompson and junior defensive specialist Jamesha Hutton.
