In a packed stadium, hundreds of supporters watched 514 Tyler Legacy High School seniors graduate Saturday night at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.

Principal Geoffrey Sherman welcomed the students and their friends and families to the graduation, followed by an invocation by student council secretary, Sophie Ziegler. Board president Wade Washmon congratulated the students on the day and announced to the crowd that the graduates were eligible to receive their diplomas.

Salutatorian Ethan Macha reminded his classmates of what lies ahead after graduation.

“Starting tomorrow, we will be in charge of ourselves,” he said. “No matter what path we take, whether that’s going into work, the military, or college, we will have freedom like we’ve never had before … this freedom is exciting … but it may also be scary. Our time in school has prepared us for what’s ahead but it’s up to make our futures happen.”

Valedictorian Brady Filla spoke to his fellow graduates about always moving forward.

“There will be twists and turns and hurdles and hills that slow you down, but take them in stride,” he said. “I believe we are all runners, faced with our own unique paths. We don’t always have to be advancing our lives at high speeds … as my grandfather says, ‘keep on keeping on.’”

After 514 graduates received their diplomas, they turned their tassels and led the crowd in singing the Tyler Legacy High School Alma Mater, followed by the Tyler Legacy Fight Song.
