An investigation is underway after authorities say a teenager was fatally shot last weekend.

The 17-year-old boy died following a shooting on the night of Aug. 10.
Tyler Police Department officers responded around 11:40 p.m. that night to a residence in the 400 block of Lorance Street, where the shooting occurred, according to Tyler Police Department Public Information Officer Andy Erbaugh.
The victim was taken by EMS to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries. The family of the victim was notified before this report was published.
The investigation identified a 16-year-old from Tyler as the suspect in the teen’s death. The suspect has been charged with manslaughter and manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance, police said Friday.
“Manslaughter is an offense that is reckless … being a juvenile, sometimes it just depends on the severity of the incident, they could be tried as an adult or tried as a juvenile and they’ll still have to serve time,” Erbaugh said in an interview with CBS19.
He was booked into the Smith County Juvenile Attention Center on Thursday.
