An Ore City man has been found not guilty in a May 2021 shooting death in Upshur County.

A jury in the trial of Robert Lee Travis acquitted him Friday, finding that he acted in self-defense when he shot Braiden Robinson, 32, also of Ore City.

Defense attorney Edward Choy argued to the jury that Travis acted within his legal rights when he defended his family from Robinson.

“This verdict is a testament to the fundamental values we hold dear,” Choy said in a statement. “Mr. Travis exercised his right to self-defense, and we are grateful the jury recognized this as a justifiable and lawful response. Today’s decision reaffirms our collective commitment to the principles of justice, individual liberty, and the protection of life and property.”

Authorities previously said Travis and Robinson knew each other and the shooting occurred during a disturbance.
