Hogue reappointed as Smith County Fire Marshal

Smith County Fire Marshal Chad Hogue will continue his work leading fire safety efforts after being reappointed to a two-year term by the Commissioners Court, effective Dec. 20.

“Hogue has done an amazing job. We appreciate everything you do,” County Judge Neal Franklin said. (We’re happy that you’re willing to do this again.”

Hogue was appointed Smith County Fire Marshal on Sept. 19, 2023.

He has a long history with fire safety and emergency management in the area. Before becoming Fire Marshal, he served as assistant emergency management coordinator and deputy fire marshal at the Smith County Fire Marshal’s Office starting in 2017.

His career in public safety spans multiple agencies, including roles as a Smith County Sheriff’s Deputy from 2015 to 2017, and as the Gregg County Fire Marshal from 2012 to 2015.



Hogue also has a background in training future firefighters, having instructed cadets through the Texas Commission on Fire Protection from 2010 to 2015 and served as a guest instructor at the Texas A&M University Municipal Fire School.

The Smith County AgriLife Extension highlighted its volunteers’ contributions to the community in a presentation which included a mock check to the county, representing the hours of service provided through local programs and initiatives.

The court approved a one-year renewal for the Annual Drainage and Roadway Striping bids, including drainage culverts awarded to Hamilton Supply for $51,489.32 and Wilson Culverts, along with roadway striping awarded to Striping Technology LP.

In addition to the drainage and roadway striping bids, the court also awarded contracts for essential materials needed for road maintenance and repair.

Bryan and Bryan was awarded the contract for 700 tons of refined road oil, while Unique Paving was awarded bulk concrete patch material. Contracts were awarded to both Texas Materials and Longview Asphalt.

The court received the following pipe and/or utility line installation requests (notice only):

• Brightspeed requested to install fiber optic cable on County Roads 152, 156, 153, 148, 172, 1282, 1284, 1215, 142, 149, 146, 1276, 1341, 147, 1334, 150, 1236, 133, 144, 140, 139, 137, 1299, 141, 1203, 148, 1202, 169, 1215, 1337, 1270, 1292, 1314, 1332, 1265, 1321, 1323 and 1350 in Precinct 1.

• Charter-Spectrum requested to install a power supply on CR 2607 in Precinct 2.

• Vexus Fiber LLC requested to install aerial and underground fiber optic cable on CR 46, 47, 1303, 1292 and 1297 in Precinct 4.
