UT Tyler softball, baseball win; TJC diamond teams host games

The UT Tyler squads were in action on Tuesday, sweeping three games — two in softball over Texas Woman’s in Denton, and one in baseball over Southern Arkansas in Tyler.

On Wednesday, the TJC teams get back in action as the Apache Ladies softball hosts a doubleheader (1 and 3 p.m. against Paris at the TJC softball field) and the Apaches host a single game (2 p.m. vs. Angelina at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Mike Carter Field).



UT TYLER SOFTBALL

The No. 3 ranked Patriots won the two Lone Star Conference games with TWU (12-0, 4-1) at Dianne Baker Field.

After 10 straight road games, UT Tyler (36-3, 27-3) returns home to Irwin Field to play on Friday, meeting St. Edward’s (3 and 5 p.m.). On Sunday the Patriots host St. Mary’s (1 and 3 p.m.).

The Pioneers fell to 17-19 and 13-17.

In the first game, Kaylee Davis (10-0) threw a four-hit shutout. She struck out six and walked one.

Sam Schott had a two-run homer with JT Smith hitting a triple and Jordyn De Los Santos knocking a double.

Ka’Lyn Watson had three hits with two each from Smith, Bailey Krolczyk and Taryn Barley.

In the second game, Cera Blanchard (14-3) and Primrose Aholelei (3rd save) combined on the four-hitter. Blanchard pitched six innings (4 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts). Aholelei threw the final inning (0 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts).

The Patriots were held to two hits, both by Smith, by TWU pitcher Randi Crawford (8-6). Smith also knocked in two runs with two RBIs from Krolczyk.

UT TYLER BASEBALL

UT Tyler plated three runs in the bottom of the eighth to break a tie en route to a 9-6 win over the Southern Arkansas Muleriders on Tuesday in a non-conference game.

The Patriots improved to 29-9 on the season. They will return to play this weekend, hosting Sul Ross State in a four-game Lone Star Conference series. All games are set for Irwin Field — 7 p.m. Friday, 3 and 6 p.m. Saturday, and 1 p.m. Sunday.

UT Tyler trailed 6-5 in the bottom of the seventh when Brock Bearden homered to dead center for a 6-6 tie.

The Patriots then scored three runs in the eight to take the lead as Drew Schmidt singled in a run with Bryce Jewell and Tanner Hornback walking to force in runs.

Garrett Arredondo (2-1) pitched the final three innings to get the win. He allowed four hits and one run with three strikeouts and one walk.

Jewell, Schmidt and Kaston Mason had doubles for the Pats. Schmidt had three hits and two RBIs while Bearden had two hits and two RBIs. Jewell knocked in two runs.

The Muleriders (21-14) were led by Brandon Nicoll, who belted a three-run homer.
