ATHENS — Athens ISD will hold a $121.5 million bond election in May to address aging facilities and fund a variety of renovations.

The board voted in favor of calling for the May 3 election during a special meeting on Feb. 13. The school district said the decision was made after officials created a strategic plan that took many months. A facilities and safety committee identified needs, visited other districts and developed a list of recommendations for the board.

Athens ISD said there will be no increase in the tax rate if the bond is passed.
