Boys Basketball: Bell, Smith lift Canton to win

CANTON — Freshman Colton Bell hit a 3-pointer to force overtime and Kaden Smith scored nine points in the extra period Canton defeated Kemp 56-48 on Friday in a District 15-4A basketball game.



Smith led the Eagles with 26 points. He connected on 14 of 15 free throw attempts.

Mason Huson added 12 points for Canton, followed by Bell (6), Tucker Brown (5), Ethan Lewis (4), Keegan Smalling (2) and Keyon Mackey (1).

Huson hit three 3-pointers and Bell connected on two 3-pointers.

Josiah Young led the Yellowjackets with 29 points, followed by Jose Morales (10), Daltyn Irvin (7) and Justin McCool (2).

Morales had a 3-pointer.

The Eagles (15-13, 5-5) visit Athens at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Yellowjackets (11-20, 2-7) hosts Mabank on Tuesday.

ATHENS 74, BROWNSBORO 53

BROWNSBORO — The Athens Hornets defeated rival Brownsboro 74-53 on Friday in a District 15-4A basketball game.

Emanuel Moore led the Hornets with 23 points, followed by Jase Warren (20) and Kaden Paul (19). Paul had three 3-pointers with Warren (2) and Paul (1) adding treys.

Mann Scott led the Bears with 14 points, followed by Amry Parmer (12), Keaton Delaney (8), Lane Shaw (7), Gabe Hendricks (6), Jacob Hendricks (6), Jacob Fulgham (3) and Danton Wright (3).

Hitting 3-pointers were Scott (2), Parmer (2), Wright (1), Jacob Fulgham (1) and Hendricks (1).

Athens improves to 20-8 overall and 9-0 in district. Brownsboro is 13-15 and 4-6.

Athens won the JV (65-36) and Frosh (35-30) games.

The Bears play host to Canton on Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m. Athens plays host to Canton on Tuesday.

CHAPEL HILL 68, GILMER 66

GILMER — Marquis Collins hit for 24 points to help the Chapel Hill Bulldogs to a 68-66 win over the Gilmer Buckeyes on Friday in a District 16-4A basketball game.

The Bulldogs, ranked No. 25, improved to 26-5 overall and 10-1 in district. The Buckeyes fell to 11-13 and 7-4.

Jorden Ford and Dee Brisbon added 12 points apiece, followed by Malik Gee (11), Isiah Mayfield (4), Ryder Steele (3) and Trevor Brooks (2).

Collins had four 3-pointers. Others with treys were Brisbon (3), Ford (2) and Gee (1).

Chapel Hill plays host to Spring Hill on Tuesday. Gilmer visits Tyler to play Cumberland on Tuesday.

BROOK HILL 65, BISHOP DUNNE 46

BULLARD — Beck Langemeier and Roy Rudzinskas combined for 25 points to lift the Brook Hill Guard to a 65-46 win over Dallas Bishop Dunne on Friday in a TAPPS 5A District 2 basketball game.

The Guard (25-4, 6-1) begins the district tournament in Waco on Feb. 7.

Langemeier led BH with 25 points, including five 3-pointers.

Rudzinskas had 23 points, followed by Luke McNeel (8), Jio Orrico (6), Samuel Williams (2) and Majus Afanasjev (1).

The Falcons (8-17, 5-2) were led by Johnny Green with 27 points (3 3-pointers).

ALTO 82, CARLISLE 33

ALTO — Jamarion Rollins hit for 25 points to lead the Alto Yellowjackets to an 82-33 win over the Carlisle Indians on Friday in a District 22-2A basketball game.

Alto improved to 18-9 overall and 6-3 in district.

Others scoring for the Yellowjackets were Tyler Bond (17), Chris Johnson (10), Tim Bond (9), Jadarion Jones (6), Caydin Warren (5), Derek Jordan (2), Tyler Jordan (2), Derek Mumphrey (2), Kylen Rosales (2) and Branden Whitaker (2).

Tyler Bond, Rollins and Jones each hit two 3-pointers.

Alto visits New Summerfield at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday. Carlisle plays host to Mount Enterprise on Tuesday.
