Authorities release name of suspect who had gun on campus, accused of family violence

NEW SUMMERFIELD — Authorities have released the name of a man arrested this week after they say he had a gun on a school campus with alleged intentions to kidnap three children.
Kevin Ramirez, 31, of New Summerfield, was arrested Monday after the New Summerfield Police Department notified the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office that he was allegedly in the New Summerfield ISD pickup line with a gun and intentions to kidnap three children, Cherokee County Sheriff Brent Dickson said Tuesday morning.

The sheriff’s office and Jacksonville Police Department came to the campus to assist and detained Ramirez without incident. Police determined the children belonged to Ramirez.
He was found to be in possession of a firearm on school grounds and was found to have allegedly committed assault family violence prior to the incident at the school. He was arrested on charges for both.
