Brook Hill takes 3-1 win over Tyler HEAT

Brook Hill’s volleyball team celebrates with its student section following a win over Tyler HEAT on Tuesday.

BULLARD — Brook Hill dropped the first set but then rallied to defeat Tyler HEAT (22-25, 25-23, 25-11, 25-22) on Tuesday night at the Herrington Sports Center.

“I definitely think that is how our season has gone,” Brook Hill head volleyball coach Savanna Wilson said. “We start slow and then just kind of taking names this year, and that’s what I’m proud of.

“What I’ve told them is they have a chance to do something really special. I’m just trying to get them to believe that.”

In the first set, Brook Hill got out to an 11-7 lead before Tyler HEAT came back and tied the score at 11. The Guard then went up 17-13 on a kill by Kamryn Buske, but Tyler HEAT battled back again.

With the Guard leading 21-19, Tyler HEAT scored five straight points to take a 24-22 lead behind the serving of Savannah Fuller. Brook Hill got a kill from Blair Brister to cut the score to 24-22 and looked like it was about to get the 23rd point, but saves from Jolie Carlile and Anaya Peel set up a kill from Fuller to clinch the first set for Tyler HEAT.



In the second set, with the score at 6-2 in favor of Brook Hill, the Guard used a 9-2 run to lead 15-7. Tyler HEAT responded with a 6-0 run of its own and eventually grabbed a 20-19 lead on a kill by Fuller. Brook Hill scored three straight points thank to consecutive aces by Julianna Mize to regain the lead. Up 24-23, Brook Hill got a kill from Hadleigh Clark on an assist by Cassidy Clark to even the match.

Brook Hill controlled the third set from the jump. The Guard scored the first six points behind the service of Cassidy Clark. After Tyler HEAT scored on a block by Peel, Brook Hill reeled off eight more points to go up 14-3. The Guard stretched their lead to 18-3 and withstood a late 6-2 spurt by Tyler HEAT to win the set 25-11 with a kill by Mize on the assist from Cassidy Clark.

Tyler HEAT led 15-12 and 16-13 in the fourth set before a 7-1 Brook Hill run put the Guard ahead 20-17. Down 21-18, Tyler HEAT used a 3-0 stretch to tie the score. However, up 24-22, Brook Hill got a kill by Brister on an assist by Cassidy Clark to close the match.

Tyler HEAT fell to 24-7. Brook Hill (20-5) will host Austin Hyde Park on Oct. 8.
