LONGVIEW — Alfredo Lizcano became the second suspect Friday to plead not guilty in the 2016 shooting death of Longview businessman Ron Horaney.
Lizcano, 39, wore a black and white striped jumpsuit as he walked awkwardly to the front of the 124th District Courtroom — his movement was restricted by shackles around his arms and Legs.

Judge Alfonso Charles, who presides over the court, explained the charges and potential punishment Lizcano is facing. He was charged with murder and capital murder with remuneration in indictments that were issued in May, which means he is suspected of accepting money to kill Horaney, and punishment could include life in prison or the death penalty.
District Attorney John Moore also read the indictments against him aloud in court before the judge asked Lizcano and his attorney, Zach Davis, if not guilty pleas should be entered. Davis answered yes.
Reza Kamali, 87, of Longview, and Lizcano, of Dallas, were arrested in April and indicted in May on charges of capital murder and murder in Horaney’s death on Memorial Day 2016.
Documents filed in the case allege that Kamali hired Lizcano to kill Horaney because of a family dispute. Horaney’s family owns the longtime downtown store Horaney’s, which sells farm, ranch and garden products.
A third suspect, Rene Paul Garcia, 26, Lizcano’s half-brother, has not been officially indicated because he is in federal prison for drug-related crimes.
