WHITEHOUSE — A Whitehouse Police Department officer was arrested over the weekend on a charge of driving while intoxicated.

Smith County Jail records show Jereld Frank Brewer, 59, was arrested by the Tyler Police Department around 7:55 p.m. Saturday night then booked into the county jail. He was released Sunday on a $500 bond.

Brewer is a captain at the Whitehouse Police Department, according to the City of Whitehouse. The city said the arrest came “after an accident.”

“Captain Brewer has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal affairs investigation in accordance with the City’s and Police Department’s policies and procedures,” the city said in a statement posted to its Facebook page Sunday afternoon.

The city said it will not make any further comments “until the criminal and administrative investigations are complete.”
