Authorities say a Lindale man is in critical condition after being shot at his home during an argument with two suspects who fled the scene.

The shooting happened around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday morning at the 20900 block of County Road 4129 in Lindale in northern Smith County, according to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to reports of an older man who had been shot. When they got to the scene, they found Rogieys Simmons, 67, who had been shot in the upper body while standing at the front door of his house.

Witnesses reported that Simmons was in an argument with two men just before the shooting. The suspects, a white man and a Black man, fled in an unknown vehicle down County Road 4129.

Simmons was taken a local hospital and is currently undergoing surgery, the sheriff’s office said Wednesday afternoon.

Smith County investigators and the Crime Scene Unit are on scene conducting their investigation. This remains an active investigation.
