Patriots in action on Saturday, TJC wins in Jacksonville

More hoops are in store on Saturday for the UT Tyler Patriots as they host a Lone Star Conference doubleheader at the Louise Herrington Patriot Center.

On Thursday, the UT Tyler squads split games as did the Tyler Junior College teams.

The Patriots meet Western New Mexico on Saturday with game times set for 1 p.m. (women) and 3 p.m. (men).

Free admission will be granted to all First Responders and individuals that bring an unwrapped toy to donate to the UT Tyler Police Department Toy Drive at Saturday’s UT Tyler basketball games.



The UT Tyler Police Department is asking that attendees please bring a new, unwrapped toy for the donation benefiting the Children’s Advocacy Center of Smith County. Each donated toy will equal one free entry into the afternoon’s contests. Only new and unwrapped toys will be accepted.

Those wishing to donate throughout the month of December are asked to deliver their toys to 3410 Varsity Dr., Tyler.

UT Tyler women moved to 3-0 in LSC play on Thursday, scoring a 76-48 win over Eastern New Mexico.

Lovisa Hevinder led the Patriots, who are 7-3 overall, with 25 points and seven rebounds. Mariah Neal (16 points) and Ella Bradley (14) were also in double figures scoring.

Deja Adrian led the Greyhounds (4-5, 0-3) with 14 points.

UT Tyler was 18 of 19 at the free throw line and Eastern New Mexico was 14 of 16.

In the men’s game, a Nikolas Gustavson 3-point shot attempt at the buzzer rimmed in-and-out to allow Eastern New Mexico to escape with a 67-66 victory over UT Tyler.

The shot almost completed a furious comeback for a Patriots team that trailed 64-52 with just 6:02 remaining in the contest.

Three Patriots were in double-figures scoring — Alex Zambie (19 points), Gustavson (13) and Juan Pablo Camargo (10). Zambie also had nine rebounds.

Jahcoree Ealy led the Greyhounds (5-2, 3-0) with 31 points.

UT Tyler (1-6, 0-3) was 2 of 6 at the free throw line, while Eastern New Mexico was 16 of 24.

TJC

The Tyler Junior College Apaches scored a 76-64 win over Jacksonville College on Thursday in a Region XIV Conference game at Curtis Carroll Field House in Jacksonville.

TJC improves to 7-5 overall and 1-2 in conference. The Jaguars fall to 3-7 and 0-3.

Four Apaches scored in double figures — Dariyus Woodson (14), Hudson Anderson (13), Jacyn Jones-Taylor (12) and Jonah Nesmith (12).

The Jaguars had three in double digits scoring — Anthony Riggans (18), Massimo Moretti (11) and FredTravious Benjamin (10).

In Cisco, the Apache Ladies (7-4) dropped a 67-64 decision to the Lady Wranglers.

KeleChi Dike led TJC with 18 points while Lillian Jackson had 14.

Cisco is 6-3.

The Apache Ladies are scheduled to meet LSU-Eunice on Saturday, Dec. 16 in Eunice, Louisiana. Tipoff is scheduled for noon.

The Apaches’ next game is Jan. 3 against Strength ‘n Motion at 6 p.m. at Wagstaff Gymnasium.
