UT Tyler VB set for Lone Star Conference tourney

The UT Tyler Patriots are seeded sixth in the 42nd Annual Lone Star Conference Volleyball Tournament that begins Thursday and continues through Saturday in Dallas.
No. 1 seed Dallas Baptist is the host.

DBU and West Texas A&M tied for the regular-season title with the Lady Patriots earning the No. 1 seed by virtue of their win over the Lady Buffs during the conference season. The top seed also hosts the LSC tournament.
Tournament play begins with four quarterfinal matches on Thursday. No. 3 Angelo State (22-6, 12-4 LSC) faces No. 6 UT Tyler (17-10, 11-5) at noon, followed by No. 2 West Texas A&M (25-3, 14-2) versus No. 7 Texas Woman’s (19-8, 11-5) at 2:30 p.m. No. 4 Arkansas-Fort Smith (22-7, 12-4) meets No. 5 Texas A&M-Kingsville (19-9, 11-5) in the 5 p.m. match, while No. 1 DBU (22-6, 14-2) faces No. 8 Texas A&M International (19-10, 10-6) in the 7:30 p.m. match.
The quarterfinal match winners advance to Friday evening semifinal matches. The LSC Championship match is scheduled Saturday afternoon. The tournament winner earns the LSC automatic qualifying berth to the Division II Volleyball Championship.
If UT Tyler wins on Thursday, the Patriots will play at 5 p.m. Friday in the semifinals.
UT Tyler is making its makes a fourth straight trip to the LSC tournament. The Patriots finished runner-up in the spring 2021 tournament (2020 Covid season) after winning the LSC Central Division title. UT Tyler is No. 9 in the Division II South Central Region ranking.
Patriot middle blocker Dakota Rogers-Hurtado (junior, McKinney/McKinney Boyd HS) was the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts in the Patriot wins over UT Permian Basin and Angelo State last week.

Every match of the LSC Volleyball Tournament will be available on the LSC Digital Network or on the LSC Digital Network OTT app. Fans will be able to purchase each match for $15. Customers who have a monthly or yearly pass will have access to all matches.
BASKETBALL
The Patriots men’s basketball game with Bacone College on Wednesday was canceled due to travel issues with the team from Muskogee, Oklahoma.
UT Tyler’s women’s and men’s teams are home on Saturday with a doubleheader at the Herrington Patriot Center.
The women (2-3) play Dallas Christian College at 1 p.m., while the men (0-1) play Northeastern State at 3 p.m.
