The cottage, opened earlier this year, is custom built with local raw materials and is a nod to Kevin’s mother, according to wife Debra.

“There was a tremendous amount of the labor, expense, expertise, planning, time, and premium materials that went into the building of Granny Kate’s Lake Escape,” she said.
“We named the property after Kevin’s mother who passed away in December, just before we finished construction; he was so excited about this project,” Taylor said. “We have several personal items throughout the home as a reminder of her joyful life. We want to share that joy for life with others.”
Taylor said the couple came across a rare opportunity and decided to expand the rental property business.
“We opened it after a rare opportunity came our way to buy the water front property and construct a space unlike any other on the lake,” she said. “We completed phase one and opened with our first booking in February of this year.”
“We did the design and most of the custom finish work ourselves,” Taylor added.
The $1 million custom property includes a private boat dock, an observation deck overlooking the lake, a fire pit, charcoal grill, and more.

Taylor said it’s the perfect place for a romantic getaway or family vacation.
“It is a beautiful place where guests can rest, relax and enjoy a romantic getaway or family vacation with a panoramic view of Lake Palestine, and they only have to pay a nightly fee,” she said. “The newly constructed boat dock adds great lake access for fishing and swimming.”
“We want our guests to experience the beauty of the East Texas trees and the lake and feel like they are in the great outdoors,” Taylor said. “We are passionate about providing a break from the everyday routine whether it is for couples to renew their marriages or families to spend quality time with each other.
