- Tyler Legacy's placed second at the District 10-6A Cross Country Championships Thursday morning at UT Tyler.
Just 12 days prior to Thursday, Trude Lamb was unable to finish the Tyler Legacy Invitational as she had an illness that forced her out early.
Royse City’s Emily Teal was the winner that day on the UT Tyler course.

But in the District 10-6A Cross Country Championships on Thursday morning back at UT Tyler, Lamb made sure she not only finished, but that she finished ahead of everyone else, winning the race in a time of 19:16.5.
“It felt great, especially since I’ve struggled so much this year,” Lamb said. “Today, to have a win was really special for me. It was really important. It felt great to win, especially since it was at our course.
“I knew I had to keep pushing, and I just had to move past what happened last week. I just had to be strong and not let my anxiety get to me. I knew I had to push through and stay strong, especially for my teammates.”
Rockwall’s Rachel Kinniburgh was second with a time of 19:29.4, and Teal came in third with a time of 19:47.8.
Lamb said her familiarity with the course gave her an edge to make a late push for the lead that she didn’t relinquish.
“I was up there with the Rockwall girl a few times, but I knew that running up this hill, I have run this several times, and I knew I could go up this hill and she couldn’t,” Lamb said. “So at that point, I was like this is my advantage right here, so I should take it. That’s exactly what I did, and it worked. I jus tknew I could take her up on that hill, and that’s what I did.”

Legacy cross country coach Dennis Teuber said Lamb’s performance was nothing new.
“That comeback kind of reminded me of her sophomore year,” Teuber said. “I think she got third to Brown from Heath and then the next week, she just turned it on at district and blew them out of the water. She came out today, looked like she was ready to go and destroyed everyone. It’s nice as a senior being her last season to finish it off being the district champ, so I’m really happy for her.”
Rockwall took first place as a team with 37 points, and Legacy was second with 48 points. Other teams were Royse City (68), Rockwall-Heath (103), Mesquite Horn (136), Mesquite (140) and North Forney (175).
Other finishers for the Lady Raiders were Joselyn Bryner, seventh, 20:40.7; Mila Teuber, 10th, 20:54.2; Celeste Dominguez, 11th, 20;55.6; Isabella McNeil, 19th, 22:10.1; Lilly Boulden, 22nd, 22:31.3; and Lily Janis, 24th, 22:49.7.
After missing regionals last season, the Legacy boys didn’t want to repeat that feat. The Red Raiders didn’t have a runner in the top eight finishers, but with five runners finishing between ninth and 17th to place second as a team with 62 points.
“I’m happy for the boys because I know that was not a good feeling last year watching other teams moving on,” Teuber said. “This year, we knew we could make it as a team. That was our goal, and we achieved that goal.”
Rockwall-Heath won the race with 18 points. Other teams were Rockwall (85), Royse City (101), Mesquite Horn (111) and North Forney (141).
Rockwall-Heath’s Joseph Uc won the race with a time of 16:37.1. His teammate, Max Douglas, was also clocked with a time of 16:37.1 and was slotted in second place. Rockwall’s James Kinniburgh was third with a time of 16:53.3, and then Rockwall-Heath took the next three places with Evan Martin, Frank Douglas and Evan Herrera giving the Hawks five of the top six finishers.
Legacy finishers were Brady Filla, ninth, 17:21.1; Michael Peveto, 10th, 17:31.1; Miller East, 12th, 17:57.5; Warren Feldman, 14th, 18:11.3; Jonathan Rodriguez,, 17th, 18:25.6; Nick Valle, 26th, 19:03.5; and Mason Maldonado, 42nd, 21:54.8.
The top three teams and top 10 individuals advance to the Class 6A Region II Championships Oct. 24 at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie.
