Canton’s Georgia Crayton has earned Tyler Morning Telegraph Volleyball Player of the Week honors for matches played Sept. 12-17.

Crayton had 72 assists, 20 digs, two aces and two kills, leading Canton (20-7, 2-0) to wins over Lindale and Mabank.

In other outstanding performances in the area last week (nominated by coaches):

Canton’s Airianna Pickens had 30 kills and a .250 hitting percentage against Lindale and Mabank. Maddie Wilson had 40 digs and four aces.

Rusk’s Kenzie North returned from injury to have 12 kills, five blocks and two digs in a win over Nacogdoches. In six matches this season, Norton has 38 kills and 35 blocks.



Troup’s Bailey Blanton had 26 kills, four aces, 30 receptions, four blocks, three digs and 34 points in matches against Tatum and Elysian Fields. Karsyn Williamson had 15 digs and 56 receptions.

Whitehouse’s Madyson Nunez had 20 kills, three aces, four blocks and a .356 hitting percentage in wins over Pine Tree and Marshall.

Beckvill’s Sophie Elliot had 81 assists, 21 digs, two kills and one ace in wins over Lufkin and Bullard. Avery Morris had 27 kills, 46 digs, two blocks and one ace. Amber Harris had 35 kills, six blocks, 29 digs and two aces.

Multiple East Texas teams earned a spot in the Texas Girls Coaches Association state rankings.

In Class 5A, Hallsville (23-5) is No. 11. In Class 4A, Brownsboro (17-5) is No. 13, Canton (20-7) No. 17, Spring Hill (18-6) No. 19 and Van (17-9) No. 25. In Class 3A, Mount Vernon (17-1) is No. 4, Tatum (28-6) No. 11, White Oak (26-7) No. 14, Central Heights (25-8) No. 20, Mineola (19-7) No. 21, Edgewood (21-8) No. 24 and Rains (19-8) No. 25. In Class 2A, Beckville (21-9) is No. 4. In Class 1A, Neches (17-8) is No. 10 and Leverett’s Chapel (10-14) No. 24.
