Hundreds of students contribute to Day of the Dead exhibit

More than 400 pieces of art by Tyler area middle school students were being readied for display Thursday at Tyler Museum of Art.

The work will be on view Sunday through Nov. 3 in the annual Middle School Day of the Dead Art Exhibition.

The students offered interpretations of Dia de los Muertos, the Mexican observance paying homage to family and friends who have died.

In conjunction with the exhibit, the museum also will display pieces from its Laura and Dan Boeckman Collection of Mexican folk art.

A reception for the students with art in the show is set from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Nov. 3 at the museum.
