Grand Saline linebacker Bryce Smith is the Peltier Kia Tyler Defensive Player of the Week.

Bryce Smith continued his outstanding play on the gridiron in Week 3 of the high school football season.

The Grand Saline linebacker was all over the field as he helped his Indians score a 51-18 win over Scurry-Rosser on Friday at Wildcat Stadium in Scurry.

Smith had a total of 20 tackles with eight solo stops. He added two tackles for loss, two quarterback pressures and a sack. The Indians’ defense held the Wildcats to only 28 yards rushing.

For his performance, Smith has been named the Peltier Kia Tyler Defensive Player of the Week.

He will be featured on a poster, sponsored by Peltier Kia Tyler, in Friday’s The Zone special section of the Tyler Morning Telegraph.

Previous winners were Chapel Hill senior linebacker Adrian Lacy (Week 1) and Troup senior linebacker Max Hale (Week 2).

Along with being a football star, Smith also dazzles on the diamond. He is an outstanding pitcher and catcher for the Indians.

Smith was named the District 12-3A Pitcher of the Year in 2019 as well as to the all-district academic squad.

Grand Saline (2-1) has an open date this week before opening District 10-3A Division II play on Sept. 27 at Troup.
