Business Notes: Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce elects new leadership, Gollob Morgan Peddy announces promotions and new employees

Ranked 18th overall in the Vanguard Region



The Wampler Wolf Team with RE/MAX Tyler was ranked 18th overall in the Vanguard Region for their second-quarter total sales volume in 2018. This is the first year that Wampler Wolf Team has been recognized for their quarterly sales volume.

Wampler Wolf Team is composed of John Wampler, Jonathan Wolf, Brandi Bullard, Kacie Carey, Cameron Dean and Erin Lavender. This group of real estate professionals has extensive experience in new and existing home sales, farm and ranch and relocation.

Promoted

Paul Douglas Brown, Brandon Clark, Daniel Gamez, Kasey Harlinski, Taylor L. Matthews and Gregory Parker have been promoted at Gollob Morgan Peddy.

Brown was promoted to senior accountant in the tax department. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Master of Accountancy from UT Tyler in 2014. He is also a 2015 recipient of the prestigious Elijah Watt Sells Award for his performance on the CPA exam. He plans to utilize his new role to assist client and co-workers in reaching their full potential.

Clark was promoted to senior accountant in the tax department. He graduated from the University of Incarnate Word in 2015 with a Master of Accountancy. Clark is looking forward to his new role at GMP, which will allow him to advance his knowledge of cost segregation studies.

Gamez, a CPA, was promoted to a team leader position in the tax department. He graduated from The University of Texas at Tyler with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration in accounting in 2011. His practice focused on tax with a specialty in construction and cost segregation studies.

Harlinski, CPA, was promoted to audit supervisor. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from LeTourneau University in 2014 and received her CPA certification in March of 2017. She is a member of the AICPA and TSCPA.

Mathews, CPA, has been promoted to accounting specialist in the oil and gas department of the firm. Matthews graduated from Baylor University in 2008 with a BBA in Finance. He plays a key role in assisting clients in the area of oil and gas tax and audit by advising them on economic and political trends that may affect the business climate.

Parker has been promoted from CPA to tax manager at Gollob Morgan Peddy. Parker graduated from The University of Texas at Tyler in 2011 and received his CPA certification in 2014. He is an integral part of the team charged with keeping the firm and clients up to date with changes to tax law from the Tax Cuts and Job Acts.

The following are now associated with Gollob Morgan Peddy, coming from Jerry Nelson and Associates:

Kelsey Simon will join the office administrative team at GMP.

Sally Cheavens is a UT Tyler graduate and has worked in the accounting profession for 38 years. Cheavens will serve as a team leader and manager in the tax department.

Spencer Jones graduated from Harding University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. Jones will serve as a staff accountant in the audit area.

Amy Latham is a UT Tyler graduate and has worked in the accounting profession for 16 years. Latham will serve as a senior accountant in the tax department.

Brittany Jones graduated with her Master of Accountancy from UT Tyler in 2014. Jones will serve as a supervisor in the audit department of the firm.

Phyllis Dacus is a Texas A&M University graduate. Dacus is a senior accountant in the tax department of GMP.

Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce elects new leadership

Skip Ogle and June Cheatham are the incoming chair and chair-elect, respectively, for the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce. The chamber elected these new leaders earlier this month and they will begin serving in their roles Oct. 1.

Ogle is a UT Arlington graduate with a bachelor’s degree in architecture and a master’s degree in city and regional planning. He is the director of community relations for Suddenlink and the owner of Skip Ogle Homes LLC, a small residential construction business serving the Tyler area.

He has served on the board of directors for the Tyler Chamber of Commerce, Tyler Economic Development Corp., UT Health Northeast Foundation, Green Acres Church Retreat Committee, Habitat for Humanity, Cancer Foundation for Life, Tyler Area Builders Association, City of Tyler Lake Advisory Committee and was recently was appointed by Gov. Greg Abbott to the Angelina Neches River Authority. He and his wife, Stephanie, live in Tyler. 

Cheatham is the administrator for EyeCare Associates of East Texas, an ophthalmology practice with 11 doctors, three satellites, an ambulatory surgery center and more than 120 employees.

She has been with EyeCare Associates for more than 19 years and in the health care industry for 32 years. She has served as a member on the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce board, Area Development Council chair, Business Area Council chair and treasurer. She also has served on the Tyler Economic Development Council, and is a lifetime member of the Bethesda Alliance. Cheatham’s husband, Tracy, is a captain with the Tyler Fire Department and they live at Lake Tyler.

East Texas author honored

East Texas author Catherine Green’s book “The Popcorn Tree” was a winner in the Texas Association of Authors’ Best Book Awards in the Grade School Adventure category. The book is about a 4-year-old girl named Claire who wakes up one morning to find her family gone. Adventure follows as she makes a new friend and they spend the day together. The book was among 48 winners in the Sixth Annual Contest. The awards were announced at the Celebration of Authors Gala in Dallas on July 28.
