Mutt Nation, an organization founded by country star and Lindale native Miranda Lambert, are removing dogs from shelters in flood-ravaged areas in southeast Texas.

“We sent over 70 pups to our shelter in Oklahoma today,” she announced on her Facebook page. “Our (animal rescue rigs) are now rolling into Houston for another load.”

Lambert posted a photo on Instagram showing a dog that had been rescued and her newborn pups.

“My roommates tonight sure are cute!” she said. “Mama and newborns that were born this morning. I’m calling her Ashley after (fellow country singing star) Ashley Monroe who just had a baby herself. MuttNation Foundation rescued 72 dogs today who are being transported to dry safe shelters across the country. Thanks for yall’s support.”

MuttNation representatives said they are taking animals from the Houston Humane Society and other shelters.

“Just a reminder that we are clearing out animals that were already in the shelters before the storm hit so that there is room for all of the displaced and lost animals from Hurricane Harvey!” representives said on Mutt Nation’s Facebook page.

Lambert and her mother, Bev Lambert of Lindale, started the foundation in 2009 to draw attention to animal rescue efforts and the availability of dogs for adoption in shelters.
