Chandler Museum to show art of Mary Hortman July 14-22

The Chandler Museum and Visitor Center will display and sell works of artist Mary Hortman July 14 to 22.

Hortman will be at the museum 6 to 9 p.m. on July 14 for the free opening night reception. She also will take part in a Tea with the Artist on July 15. Tickets to the tea cost $10.
A professional artist for 30 years, Hortman began primarily as a portrait painter. Though self taught, she studied with Houston watercolorist Marge Shepard Brichler and oil painter Carolyn Anderson, among others.
She has taught at the Houston School of Art & Design and has won many awards, including Best of the Show in the Visual Arts Exhibit in Houston. She also was accepted into Houston Watercolor Society’s International Exhibition”.
She moved to Arizona in 1999 and has shown her work in the Celebration of Fine Art, the Arizona Fine Arts Expo, as well as Thunderbird Artists and galleries in Scottsdale and Tucson.
During her time in Arizona, she has taken on a number of commissions, including a battle scene depicting the 551st Battalion in the Battle of the Bulge.
She said that she loves to “experiment with new ideas and techniques in order to convey my own emotional response to the subject”.
