East Texans woke up to another soggy morning Thursday as rain continued through the night into the morning.

According to meteorologist John Adams, rain is expected to continue for much of the morning Thursday, but weather is not expected to be severe as it was Wednesday, which included thunderstorm and tornado warnings across much of the area.

“We’ll still have lingering showers (Thursday), thunderstorms wont be as severe and the rain will move out toward noon,”  Adams said.

The forecast for the Tyler area for Friday is cloudy, but sunshine is expected to return Saturday and continue through the weekend.

Heavy storms from Wednesday night and rain Thursday is expected to have dumped about 1.5 inches of rain on the area by the time the rain dies out Thursday afternoon.

Although some areas saw winds with speeds reaching an estimated 60 miles per hour and quarter-sized hail, very little damage was reported as a result of Wednesday’s storms.

Northern East Texas saw the most severe weather with a tornado watch in effect through the evening and many reports of a possible tornado north of Interstate 20, but no tornadoes were confirmed.

The severe weather came as East Texans were already struggling to recover from the heavy rain event that led to widespread flooding and road closures earlier in the month. More than 4.5 inches of rain fell on March 9. Most areas of East Texas have seen about 10 inches of rain so far in March.
