- TAO Texas Parks and Wildlife Department continues an eastern turkey restocking program in East Texas with aid from sportsmen, landowners and organizations like the National Wild Turkey Federation.
The National Wild Turkey Federation Smith County Chapter is hold its annual Hunting Heritage Banquet beginning at 5 p.m. Jan. 29 at the Tyler Rose Garden Center, 420 Rose Park Dr., Tyler.
The banquet comes at the perfect time as Texas Parks and Wildlife Department was expected to make its first eastern turkey release this week in the Angelina National Forest. Additional stockings could be coming later in Anderson, Cherokee and Henderson counties if enough birds are trapped in other states.

Tickets for this year’s banquet are $55 for individuals and $80 for couples. Both include an annual membership to NWTF along with the meal. An individual sponsorship is $300.
Other sponsorships include, Silver Table, $500, with five memberships, a sponsor membership and six dinner tickets; a Gold Table, $650, with seven memberships, a sponsor membership and eight dinner tickets; and a Platinum Gun Table, $1,100, with nine memberships, a sponsor membership, 10 dinner tickets and a firearm valued up to $400.
