Flint’s Bergman ties for 8th; Athens’ Robertson finishes runner-up in PGA play

DALLAS — Braden Bergman, of Flint, tied for eighth after Tuesday’s final round of the Garb Ninth Annual Texas Boys & Girls PGA Championship on the Presidents Course at Brookhaven Country Club.

Bergman had a 36-hole score of 3-over 140 after carding an even par of 70 during Tuesday’s competition in the Boys 11-12 Division. He tied with Frisco’s Jace Boslow (74-69) and Plano’s Rhett O’Rear (69-74).

Awesome Burnett, of Flower Mound, won the tourney with a 8-under 132 (64-68). Burnett won by four strokes over Preston Albee, of Choctaw, Oklahoma, who scored 4-under 136 (69-67). There was a three-way tie for third at 2-under 138 between Dallas’ Nathan Miller (71-67), Irving’s Deuce Monroe (68-70) and Prosper’s Ryan Shellberg (65-73).

Longview’s Isaac Adams is tied for 18th at 8-over 156 (78-78).



There were 27 golfers in the field.

Sidney Robertson, of Athens, placed second in the Girls 11-12 Division after carding a 6-over 146 (70-76). Jordyn Arts, of Trophy Club won at 2-over 142 (70-72). Alyssa Kurji, of Dallas, placed third at 15-over 155 (74-81).

Hallsville’s Lake Juban makes cut at 92nd Texas Junior Amateur

HORSESHOE BAY — Lake Jackson’s Jacob Borow continues to lead the 92nd Texas Junior Amateur at Horseshoe Bay Resort’s Summit Rock Golf Club after a steady 3-under 69 in Tuesday’s second round at Summit Rock Golf Course.

Borow is at 9-under 135. He had a first-round score of 66 on Monday.

One of the oldest and largest state junior championships in the country, the Texas Junior Amateur hosts 240 kids in 4 divisions on two golf courses. Horseshoe Bay Resort is hosting the event for the eighth time in the last nine years. For the second consecutive year, the Jack Nicklaus Signature Design Summit Rock Golf Club is hosting the Boys Division.

There is a two-way tie for second at 8-under 136 between Austin’s Cole Sherwood (68-68) and San Antonio’s Shoichrio Kato (69-67).

Five East Texans were in the tournament with Hallsville’s Lake Juban making the cut at 5-over 149 (75-74). He is tied for 35th.

Other East Texans in the field were Carter Hill, Longview, 77-80—157; Ryan Esparza, Hideaway, 89-82—171; Cade Bruce, Longview, 84-88—172; and Scott Skrocki, Tyler, 84-NC.

The 54-hole stroke play event was cut to the low 45 and ties following the second round, which was plus 6 150 and included 49 players. The final round is Wednesday.

In the girls division, Elise Parel, of Kingwood, leads at 6-under 138 (68-70) after play on the Slick Rock Golf Course. Tied for second at 5-under 139 are Austin’s Bentley Cotton (72-67) and Austin’s Jensen Jalufka (69-70).

Tyler’s Sydney McConnell missed the cut at 15-over 159 (79-80). The cut was at 11-over 155.

The 14 and under divisions played 36-holes.

Keller’s Jase Summy won the boys division with a 7-under 137 (70-67). Two strokes back was Dallas’ Andrew Petruzzelli (70-69—139), while there was a two-way tie for third between Austin’s Keaton Vo (71-70— 141) and Frisco’s Hunter Millsap (71-70—141).

There were 42 golfers in the field.

In the Girls 14 & under division, Symran Shah, of Carrollton, won with a 4-under 140 (69-71). Tying for second at 5-over 149 were Brooke McDonough, of Spicewood (73-76) and Darrelyn Webster, of Austin (73-76).

There were 15 golfers in the field.
