Mineola serves as the setting for ‘Bigfoot Wars’

On this date in 2014, “Bigfoot Wars,” a movie about an ape-like creature who might be responsible for the disappearance of women in a small town, hits movie theaters.

When the county’s sheriff (Holt Boggs) and hunter (C. Thomas Howell) search through the wilderness to find the women, they end up confronting several of the creatures.
Much of the movie was filmed in and around Mineola, including in the Mineola Nature Preserve.
Dozens of residents were used as extras.
David Sullivan and Chae Balisteri, both originally from Longview, were in the cast.
