- Mexia's Cindy Walker wrote dozens of hit country music songs in a career that spanned decades.
Mexia native Cindy Walker was one of the most successful songwriters in history.
Beginning in the late 1930s she wrote songs over four decades that became hits for stars in pop, country, folk and R&B genres.

Her best known song, “You Don’t Know Me,” was a hit for Eddy Arnold and Jerry Vale (both in 1956), Lenny Welsch (1960), Ray Charles (1962), Elvis (1968) and Mickey Gilley (1981).
By some estimates, the song has been recorded more than 100 times by artists, including Bob Dylan, and Willie Nelson.
