Teenager faces charge in social media threat against Gilmer ISD

GILMER — A 13-year-old boy has been charged after making a social media threat targeting Gilmer ISD, according to the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office.

“On the night of Sept. 24, Upshur County deputies and Gilmer Police Department officers responded to a report from Gilmer school personnel of a threat made through social media targeting Gilmer ISD,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “Upshur County investigators interviewed persons associated with the social media accounts, and this led to the identification of a 13-year-old juvenile suspect.

“The juvenile was located and acknowledged being the author of the threat. He was detained and placed in a juvenile facility in Harrison County on a charge of terroristic threat. The case will be forwarded to the Upshur County district attorney.”
