East Texas women to be honored for leadership, service at Tyler event

Four East Texas women will be recognized for their dedication to education, health, advocacy and community service as part of Women’s History Month during an upcoming event in Tyler.



“We are honored to recognize these incredible women whose contributions uplift our communities,” Tyler City Council Member Shirley McKellar said.

The first-ever “A Red Regal Affair” Women’s History Awards Sunday Dinner will be held at 1 p.m. March 30 at A Taste of North Delight Restaurant II.

The event is hosted in partnership with SisStore Joy Christian Bookstore, owned by attorney Karla J. Aghedo. A Tyler High School salutatorian and former class president of the Class of 2001, Aghedo’s bookstore highlights works by Christian women authors and artisans.

This celebration will honor local women for their positive impact in East Texas. The 2025 award recipients are:

• Nicole Robinson – Principal at Jones Elementary School, Tyler ISD

• Candice Ross – Fitness instructor, founder, and CEO of CR Inc.

• Tyesha High – Texas College senior and Miss UNCF 2024-25

• Laura Newsome – Mental health professional

Attendees will enjoy an afternoon of recognition, fellowship and a Southern-style meal. Each guest will also receive a book from a SisStore Joy Christian Bookstore Collective member.

“Their commitment and impact embody the essence of Women’s History Month, and we look forward to celebrating their achievements,” McKellar said.

Tickets are $20 and available to both men and women. They can be purchased on Eventbrite or at A Taste of North Delight Restaurant II, located inside the Quality Inn Hotel at 2843 W Northwest Loop 323 in Tyler.
