Tyler Morning Telegraph Volleyball Notebook: Neches’ Sealy Hines takes weekly honor

Neches’ Sealy Hines is the Tyler Morning Telegraph Volleyball Player of the Week.

Neches sophomore middle blocker Sealy Hines has earned Tyler Morning Telegraph Volleyball Player of the Week honors for matches played Aug. 22-27.

Hines led the Lady Tigers to a 6-1 record. Neches won the Silver Bracket of the Athens Tournament.

Hines finished with 57 kills and 19 aces.

In other outstanding performances in the area last week (nominated by coaches):

Grace Community’s Avery Nutt had 22 kills and four blocks in two matches. Keely Bozeman had nine kills and 19 digs. Grace Jewell had six aces, two kills and 23 digs.



Canton middle blocker had 55 kills and had a .300 hitting percentage as the Eaglettes played six matches. Outside hitter Emma Welty had 34 kills and a .175 hitting percentage. Libero Maddie Wilson had 70 digs.

Brook Hill freshman Julianna Mize had 39 kills, 47 digs, six aces and nine blocks to lead the Guard to a record of 4-3. Junior Gracie Dawson had 35 kills, 53 digs, 14 aces and eight blocks.

Beckville’s Avery Morris had 70 kills, eight blocks, 57 digs and five aces. Sophie Elliott had 169 assists, nine kills, one ace and 65 digs as Beckville went 6-1 and finished second in the White Oak Tournament.

Multiple East Texas teams earned a spot in the Texas Girls Coaches Association state rankings.

In Class 5A, Hallsville (14-4) is No. 9. In Class 4A, Bullard (17-3) is No. 5, Brownsboro (13-4) No. 12 and Pleasant Grove (10-3) No. 20. In Class 3A, Harmony (12-1) is No. 6, Mount Vernon (10-0) No. 8, White Oak (20-5) No. 11 and Prairiland (14-4). In Class 2A, Beckville (17-7) is No. 4, Jewett Leon (13-3) No. 5, and Cross Roads (13-7) No. 25. In Class 1A, Neches (12-7) is No. 11 and Leverett’s Chapel (9-8) No. 20.
