Brad Curtis announces candidacy for District 6 Tyler City Council seat

A Tyler businessman has announced his intention to seek election as the next City Council member representing District 6, which is currently vacant after the death of Criss Sudduth.
Tyler native Brad Curtis will seek the seat in the May 2 election. Early voting runs from April 20 to 28.

Sudduth’s seat will remain vacant until the election. The filing period for candidates begins Jan. 15 and continues until Feb. 14.
Curtis is president of Tyler Building Systems, a family-owned manufacturing and construction business in Tyler, according to a news release.
“Our city leaders over the past several decades have done a superb job of positioning Tyler for future success,” he said in a prepared statement.
“We have a strong track record for fiscal responsibility, and I intend to help maintain that financial discipline while simultaneously planning to meet the current and future demands of Tyler’s growth,” Curtis said in the news release.
“As a business owner I have experience meeting budgets, planning and working with teams to face challenges directly and resolve them quickly and successfully.”
Curtis graduated from Tyler ISD schools and Baylor University, where he earned both Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration degrees, according to the announcement.

His civic activities have included the city of Tyler Airport Advisory Board, East Texas Area Council Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader, People Attempting to Help (PATH) board member, Habitat for Humanity board president, Tyler Little League East coach, Tyler Soccer Association coach and Texas Rose Festival Association president.
“My community volunteer roles have prepared me to work with people of all backgrounds to meet common goals. I believe these skills will be important in serving the citizens of Tyler,” Curtis said in the news release. “I believe serving one’s community is a privilege and I would be honored to serve Tyler as City Council member for District 6.”
Curtis and his wife, Suzanne, have two adult children and are members of Marvin United Methodist Church.
