TJC Notebook: Apache Ladies basketball hosting tourney, seeds unveiled for volleyball, soccer teams

The No. 24 Tyler Junior College Apache Ladies basketball team opens its home schedule this weekend at Wagstaff Gymnasium.
The Holiday Inn Women’s Basketball Classic will include three games on Friday and three contests on Saturday.

Friday’s schedule includes: Angelina College vs. Collin College, 2 p.m.; Bossier Parish Community College vs. Odessa College, 4 p.m.; and Crowder (Missouri) College at TJC, 6 p.m.
Saturday’s schedule includes: Odessa vs. Angelina, noon; Bossier Parish vs. Crowder, 2 p.m.; and Collin at TJC, 4 p.m.
The Apache Ladies are 1-0 after scoring a 113-21 victory at Lone Star College-Tomball on Monday.
MEN’S SOCCER
For the 10th straight year the Apaches will be competing in the NJCAA Division I Men’s National Tournament, which is scheduled for Nov. 12-17 at the Daytona State Soccer Stadium, hosted by Daytona State College in Daytona Beach, Florida.
TJC, the two-time defending national champion and winner of six overall titles, is the No. 2 seed.

The Apaches are in Pool B with No. 7 Monroe College (New York) and No. 11 Community College Baltimore County-Essex (Maryland).
TJC (18-2) will play BC-Essex (13-5-2) at 11 a.m. Monday and Monroe (10-1-2) at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
The winner of pool play advances to the semifinals scheduled for Friday, Nov. 16.
The championship is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 17.
Other groupings include — Pool A: No. 1 Pima (Arizona), No. 8 Northeast Texas and No. 12 Muskegon (Michigan); Pool C: No. 3 Barton (Kansas), No. 6 Georgia Military and No. 10 St. Louis; and Pool D: No. 4 Marshalltown (Iowa), No. 5 Eastern Florida State; and No. 9 Cowley (Kansas).
WOMEN’S SOCCER
The Apache Ladies get a chance to defend their crown as they will be competing in the NJCAA Division I Women’s National Tournament, which is scheduled for Nov. 12-17 at Foley Sports Complex in Foley, Alabama.
The Apache Ladies (20-1-1) are seeded No. 1 in the tourney and will compete in Pool A, along with No. 8 Monroe Community College (New York) and No. 12 Moraine Valley (Illinois).
TJC (18-2) will play Moraine Valley (19-1-1) at 10 a.m. Monday and Monroe (14-4-0) at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
The semifinals are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 16 with the championship on Saturday, Nov. 17.
Other groupings include — Pool B: No. 2 Monroe College (New York), No. 7 Lewis & Clark (Illinois) and No. 11 Butler (Kansas); Pool C: No. 3 Iowa Western, No. 6 Navarro (Texas) and No. 10 Paradise Valley (Arizona); and Pool D: No. 4 Arizona Western, No. 5 Eastern Florida State; and No. 9 Laramie County (Wyoming).
VOLLEYBALL
The Apache Ladies are appearing in their third straight NJCAA Division I National Tournament, which is scheduled for Nov. 15-17 at Hutchinson Sports Arena in Hutchinson, Kansas.
The Apache Ladies are seeded No. 7 for the tourney and will play No. 10 New Mexico Military Institute at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15. The winner of that contest will play either No. 2 Southern Idaho or No. 15 Laramie County (Wyoming) in the quarterfinals later that day at 5 p.m.
Also, Trinity Valley Community College received an at-large bid. The Lady Cardinals are the No. 9 seed and will play No. 8 Mineral Area (Missouri) at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15. The winner advances to play either No. 1 Miami-Dade (Florida) or No. 10 Monroe College (New York) at 7:30 p.m. later that day.
Region XIV’s other automatic bid, besides region champion TJC, is No. 4 Navarro College of Corsicana. The Lady Bulldogs will play No. 13 Northeastern (Colorado) at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15. The winner of the match will play either No. 5 Iowa Western or No. 12 Hill College (Texas) later that day at 7:30 p.m.
The national championship game is set for 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17.
