Ok, I guess John Denver did not have the opening day of dove season on his mind when he sang this, but it sure does fit.
Everything except the dog is packed and ready to head west in the morning for Thursday’s opening day of dove season in Texas’ Central and North zones.
It is the one thing I have been doing since a kid in the 1960s, and I don’t plan to change now.
Excited because dove numbers are good. Concerned because there is a lot of feed and water, and with rain have fallen in Central Texas the last two weeks we could be in for a mudfest.
There will be a lot of hunters out Thursday, but probably even more for the three-day holiday weekend. It doesn’t matter when you go as long as you go.
Got ammo, camo and a hunting license. What more does a hunter need?
