ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) – Nneka Ogwumike has broken the WNBA record for field goals made in a game without a miss, hitting all 12 of her shots in the Los Angeles Sparks’ 97-73 rout of Dallas.
She surpassed the mark set by Minnesota’s Seimone Augustus, who was 11 for 11 from the field against the Sparks on June 8, 2007.
“I hadn’t actually realized any records, personal or historical, had been broken until my teammates started congratulating me and pouring me with love until well after the game,” Oguwmike said Sunday. “That is really what makes something like this achievement so special, my squad! As long as we can keep this train rolling, I’m sure we’ll be on the way to continue making this season memorable.”
Ogwumike also made all seven of her free throw attempts Saturday and both her 3-pointers to help the Sparks stay unbeaten this season at 9-0.
The veteran forward also had 10 rebounds, making her the second player to have a double-double and hit all her shots and free throws. Indiana’s Erlana Larkins did it May 14 against Dallas. She made all three of her field goal attempts and was 8 for 8 from the foul line. She also had 13 rebounds.
Los Angeles, second in the AP power poll, is 9-0 for the third time in franchise history. The team won its first nine games in 2001 and 2003.
