UPDATE: PALESTINE (KYTX) – According to the Emergency Management Office in Anderson County, straight line winds caused considerable damage Thursday night in Anderson County.
The heaviest damage was reported along County Road 142 between Palestine and Elkhart.
There were downed trees, and power lines. A garage was destroyed, but the storm spared the house adjacent to it.
Whatever the type of storm that came through here was pretty powerful.
The storm came through Thursday evening, and people say it was raining, and then heard some wind but they were really surprised by the strength of the storm that passed through. It made for some scary moments for the folks who love in this area.
Kyle Douthit was one of those folks, “We were sitting in the house. I was here visiting my grandma and it started raining. And I didn’t hear anything out of the ordinary. Then all of a sudden trees started cracking. I went to the back door to make sure it was shut and next thing I knew we were in a tornado. So you’re sure it was a tornado that came. I know it was a tornado, definitely.”
And the most of the people stayed in their homes overnight, despite the lack of power, checking in on each other. Power crews have been out all night as well as crews from Century link working to restore communications and power.
