The East Texas Regional Fraternal Order of Police met Wednesday at a Southside Bank location in Tyler to open an officer assistance account.

The account will be used to assist officers within the organization who are injured on duty or who may encounter unexpected health issues.

East Texas Fraternal Order of Police President and Tyler Police Officer Chuck Boyce said starting the fund has been a goal of the group for a while and that funds raised at their Back the Blue concert, held in late June, have helped make it a reality.

“It’s officers looking out for officers,” Boyce said. “A lot of times when somebody gets hurt protecting the well being of others their needs fall through the cracks.”
