HAROLD BURGESS

Services for Harold Burgess will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Hilliard Funeral Home with family members officiating with a graveside service to will follow at Sand Flat Cemetery. Family will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Harold Douglas Burgess was born April 29, 1924 in Smith County, Texas to the late Donal & Omega Martin Burgess. He had been a resident of Hideaway for 43 years, formerly living in Van. He served in the US Navy during WWII. He was a talented musician, being awarded Texas State Fiddlers Champion two years in a row at the young age of 13. At 16, he signed a music contract with Kay Kaiser orchestra. He was named Mr. Music Man of Hideaway Lake in 1979. He was Church of Christ by faith and was a Mason.

Harold passed away at the age of 93 on January 16, 2018 in Lindale. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donal Grafter Burgess and Omega Martin Burgess; children, Cathy Arrington (29), Harold Douglas Burgess, Jr. (60) and David Wayne Burgess (47); and one brother, Billy Bob Burgess.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Janelle Burgess of Hideaway; two sons and daughters-in-law, Danny Ray Burgess and Joni Kay Campbell of Ft. Worth and Jimmy Dale & Deborah Sue Burgess of Alabama; daughter and son-in-law, Diane & Thomas Adams of Hideaway; brother, Jerry Don Burgess of Houston; twelve grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
