Attorneys are picking a jury this afternoon in the murder case of a Tyler man accused of shooting and killing another man outside of a nightclub a year ago.

Marquel Jermon Scott, 33, is charged with murder, a first-degree felony, and one count of aggravated assault after he allegedly shot Keeston Dwone Fields, 26 outside of the Hyena’s Clubhouse, 2126 N. Grand Ave. at 2 a.m. on Nov. 26, 2012. Fields died from his injuries. Another man, John Woods, was critically injured in the shooting, Tyler Police spokesman Don Martin said in November 2012.

Scott faces life in prison if he is convicted, prosecutor Jeff Wood said. The case will be tried in the Smith County 7th District Court, with Judge Kerry Russell presiding. Defense attorneys Buck Files and Brett Harrison are defending Scott.

He is being held in the Smith County jail on a $1.25 million bond.
