After a three-way race and subsequent runoff, Jacksonville residents have chosen to keep their mayor.
Incumbent Kenneth Melvin, defeated Sadler’s Restaurant owner Rob Gowin, on Tuesday night. Gowin received 510, or 47 percent, of the votes while Melvin received 586, or 53 percent. Gowin led in last month’s mayoral race, and Melvin came in second, but Gowin did not garner 50 percent of the vote, forcing a runoff. The third candidate in the mayor’s race, William Igbokwe, a 23-year-old political science graduate from The University of Texas at Austin, came in third.
