It was a record-setting night for the Patriots.

Four UT Tyler players hit in double figures as the Patriots scored an 81-65 victory over East Texas Baptist on Tuesday, establishing a school record for wins (16) in the process.

Jordan Cannon led the Patriots with 19 points in the American Southwest Conference game before a loud and enthusiastic crowd of near 700 at the Herrington Patriot Center.

In the first game, senior Olivia Burns led four Patriots in double figures as UT Tyler scored an 83-56 win over ETBU in the women’s game.

The Patriots take a day off and it’s back to action on Thursday in Longview against LeTourneau. The women play at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men at 7:30 p.m.

Men

The Patriots (16-6, 11-5 ASC) moved past the 2009-10 squad, which finished 15-12. UT Tyler can add to the record as there are still three regular season games remaining, plus the postseason.

“I feel like this team has been really good all year — on the floor and off the floor,” Patriot coach Kenny Bizot said. “They have worked really hard and for this group to break the all-time win record so far with three games left, I was really happy for them. They are such a good group of young men. They play with such passion for the game. … I enjoy coaching them.”

The Patriots moved into first place in the ASC East by a half-game over UT Dallas (10-5). The winner of the East hosts the ASC Tournament.

Along with Cannon, Joe Stephens (5 of 8 from 3-point) and Nathan Harbour had 15 points apiece. Dallas Bean added 10 points. Cannon had six rebounds, while Tyler Hysell added five boards. Tre Potter contributed five assists and Billy Hopson had three steals. Darren Houliston added nine points.

Jaron Joseph led the Tigers (9-13, 5-11) with 19 points. Justin Felicia had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Women

Burns, a guard from San Antonio, had perhaps her best game of the year, shooting 8 of 12 from the field while grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out two assists.

Three other Patriots were in double digits — Taylor Murphy (16 points), Danai Woods (15) and Brittany King (10).

The victory moved the Patriots (15-7) closer to clinching a playoff spot as they moved to 10-6 in league play. ETBU (13-9) saw its chances for the postseason dim as the Lady Tigers fell to 8-8 in ASC play.

Jaimie Kadlecek led ETBU with 14 points, while Brandace had 10 points.

The Patriots outrebounded the Lady Tigers, 41-24. Burns led with eight, while She’Cara Humphrey had seven. Lauren Glasco and King had six boards each. Woods had six assists and Teylor Seals had three steals.

Seals and Humphrey were near double figures in scoring with nine and eight points, respectively.

PATRIOTS POINTS: The Tyler Heart Throbbers performed at halftime and the crowd showed them a lot of love. … The UT Tyler dance team honored member Callie Graul, who passed away Saturday after a brief illness. The dance team and family and friends wore red in her honor. … Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Cox were honored as outstanding members by the Patriot Senior Club. … After a six-game homestand, the Patriots hit the road for their final three regular season games — vs. LeTourneau on Thursday in Longview (5:30 p.m. women, 7:30 p.m. men), vs. Mississippi College Feb. 14 in Clinton, Miss. (5:30 p.m. women, 7:30 p.m. men) and vs. Louisiana College on Feb. 16 in Pineville, La. (1 p.m. women, 3 p.m. men).
