Health Briefs: Gallbladder disease seminar set July 8

East Texas Medical Center will offer a free KnowledgeFirst Forum on gallbladder disease with surgeon Dr. David Young of East Texas Vascular Associates at noon July 8 in the ETMC Pavilion, at 801 Clinic Drive.
“The disease often presents differently from person to person with symptoms ranging from nausea to back pain and upper abdominal pain to yellowing of the skin,” Young said. “Around 20 percent of the population has gallstones and 5 to 10 percent of those will need surgery.”
Young will discuss the disease and the latest advancements in treatment, including da Vinci single-site surgery.

Asthma symposium to offer guideline-based care
An asthma symposium for physicians, nurses, midlevel practitioners and respiratory therapists will be held from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 12 at UT Health Northeast’s Academic Center Amphitheater, Building F, 11937 U.S. Highway 271.
UT Health Northeast, Texas Health and Human Services Commission and Superior HealthPlan are sponsoring the event.
Participation is free, and continuing education hours are available for physicians and nurses.
