“Hotel California,” a song by the Eagles that told of a mysterious, mythical place, hit No. 1 on the Billboard pop singles chart on this date in 1977.

The band’s founding and longtime members were Glenn Frey, Bearnie Leadon, Randy Meisner and Don Henley, a native of Linden. 

“Hotel California” won the Grammy for Song of the Year.
