TYLER — Mamie Lou Hickman Laney, 84, went home to be with our Lord on October 15, 2024, in Tyler, Tx. Born on January 17, 1940, to Arthur & Ruthie Hickman, Mamie was a beacon of positivity and warmth, always greeting everyone with a radiant smile and kind words.
She was a dedicated homemaker, and entrepreneur running a successful business for 40 years alongside her husband Mack at Canton Trades Day. She was renowned as one of the first vendors to sell handmade bug boxes, which brought joy to many children. Her commitment to the community continued through her years as Coordinating Chairman for the East Texas State Fair’s Arts & Crafts Division.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a lifelong member of Willowbrook Baptist Church, formerly West Erwin Baptist Church. Her personal hobbies included reading and quilting, activities that reflected her gentle and creative spirit. Mamie’s life was a testament to her loving nature and spirit, and she will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mack Laney, and her brothers, Eugene, Arthur “Judy,” and Cecil Hickman.
Mamie is lovingly remembered by sister, Pauline Peters; sister-in-law Bettie Hickman; sons, Tony and Toby Laney; daughter, Wendy Thornton and her husband Brett; granddaughters, Stephanie Bell and her husband Luke, Allison Thornton and her fiancé Joseph and his daughter Paisley; and great-granddaughter, Chloe, along with numerous neices and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Jackson’s-Burks-Walker-Tippit on Friday, October 18, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. Funeral services will take place at Willowbrook Baptist Church on Saturday, October 19 at 10:00 AM, followed by an interment service at Flint Cemetery.
