Girls Basketball: Lady Lions complete district unbeaten

HALLSVILLE — The Tyler Lady Lions are district basketball champions for the second consecutive year.



Bralyah Miller scored 15 points and Kalyse Buffin added 13 as the Lady Lions defeated the Hallsville Lady Bobcats 55-13 on Tuesday in a District 10-5A game.

Tyler (30-5) finished district 16-0. It was the Lady Lions’ 34th straight district win, spanning over three seasons.

The Lady Lions advance to the Class 5A Division I playoffs to face Prosper Walnut Grove (16-17) in bi-district next week.

Others scoring for Tyler vs. Hallsville were MaKayla Taylor (8), Jer’Miya Rice (7), Ariel Johnson (4), Bra’Shia Miller (4), Ameri Goss (2) and Jaz Moore (2).

Bralyah Miller had two 3-pointers with one each from Buffin and Rice.

Hallsville ends its season at 6-25 and 3-13.

Angel Miles and Livi Vineyard led the Lady Bobcats with five points each.

The Lady Lions are scheduled to play Prosper Walnut Grove (16-17) in bi-district on Monday. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at North Forney High School in Forney.

GRACE 67, CRISTO REY 4

The Grace Community Lady Cougars opened the TAPPS 5A District 2 Girls Basketball Tournament with a 67-4 win over Dallas Cristo Rey on Tuesday at Galen Taylor Gymnasium in Tyler.

The Lady Cougars improved to 21-12.

Three Grace players hit in double figures — Hannah Stout (14), Lucy Loftis (10) and Kat Neal (10).

Others scoring for the Lady Cougars were Macie Mathis (8), Paige Gilmore (6), Macy Loftis (6), Lilly Kennedy (4), Rylee Phillips (3), Jacie Whitson (2), Casey Goetz (2) and Kimora Johnson (2).

Nicolette Gonzalez and Kimberly paced the Fire with two points each.

HAWKINS 62, LINDARE-KILDARE 24

HAWKINS — The Hawkins Lady Hawks (No. 1 TGCA/No. 10 TABC) completed a perfect 12-0 run through District 21-2A play with a 62-24 win over Linden-Kildare on Tuesday.

Taetum Smith finished with a 19-point, 10-steal double-double for the Lady Hawks. Smith also had five assists. Londyn Wilson chipped in with 12 points, Jentri Evans six points, seven steals and three assists, Karsyn Johnson four points, Alaya Scoggins six points, nine rebounds and two steals, Alana Gipson one point and five steals, Ava Ellison five points, Haylee Skipworth four points, Ainsley Conner two points and Aftyn Serrano three points.

Hawkins will take on Mount Enterprise at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in Arp to open the playoffs.

LONGVIEW 58, ROYSE CITY 53

LONGVIEW — At Lobo Coliseum, the Longview Lady Lobos closed out the regular season with a 58-53 District 10-6A win over Royse City.

Bethany Baltes had 17 points, Trinity Huey 11 and Jailiyah Rockmore 10 for Longview (21-7, 6-6), which trailed 30-27 at halftime but outscored the Lady Bulldogs 14-10 in the third and 14-13 in the fourth.

Terri Sparkman added eight points, Charae Bell and Maya Ward five apiece and Daniella Baeza two. Sparkman had seven rebounds, and Rockmore and Huey chipped in with five apiece. Ward handed out five assists, and Rockmore added four steals.

The Lady Bulldogs fell to 11-22 and 3-9.

HENDERSON 52, KILGORE 36

HENDERSON — Anya Jackson and Kyeisha Clater combined for 30 points, and the Henderson Lady Lions moved to 16-14 overall and 8-6 in District 16-4A play with a 52-36 win over the Kilgore Lady Bulldogs.

Jackson had a double-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds and three steals, and Clater finished with 14 points and four steals for Henderson, which trailed 9-8 after one quarter and led 20-17 at halftime before outscoring Kilgore 14-0 in the third.

Kyla Tyeskey added seven points and 14 rebounds for the Lady Lions. Kenedii Hogg finished with six points and three rebounds, Keyounie Alexander six points and Danita Gonzalez two points and three steals.

NEW DIANA 34, MPCH 33

DIANA — Jolie Ballard celebrated senior night by scoring 12 points to go along with eight rebounds and four steals as the New Diana Lady Eagles edged Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill 34-33 in District 13-3A action.

Taryn Reece added 11 points and three steals, and Ava Smith had five points for New Diana, which led 25-15 at halftime. Senior Natalie Manes had four points and four rebounds, and senior Starrmia Dixon added two points.

JEFFERSON 52, HARMONY 18

JEFFERSON — Keinysa Wallace tossed in 23 points, and the Jefferson Lady Bulldogs closed out the regular season with a 52-18 District 13-3A win over Harmony.

Janaa Goynes finished with eight points, Jordyn Davidson and Stormi McNeil six apiece, Destiny Kelly four, Kaliyah Whitaker and Alaysia Durden two each and Jade Mallory one. McNeil added 10 rebounds, Wallace seven rebounds and six assists and Davidson four rebounds, 10 assists and five steals.

Jefferson will open the playoffs at 6:30 p.m. on Monday against Atlanta at Pleasant Grove High School in Texarkana.

UNION GROVE 57, ORE CITY 6

UNION GROVE — Nico Carloni and Keira Taylor scored 10 points apiece for Union Grove, and the Lady Lions rolled to a 57-6 District 21-2A win over Ore City.

Taylor Campbell added seven points for Union Grove, which led 14-0 after one quarter and 29-2 at halftime. Rachel Potter and Sarah Prince finished with six points apiece, Danica Vestal and Olivia Dabreu five apiece and Jamie Webb and Mallorie Cannon four apiece.

Union Grove (20-11, 9-3), in the postseason for the 12th straight season, will open the playoffs on Tuesday at 6 p.m. against Cushing at Tyler Junior College.

SALTILLO 68, AVINGER 52

SALTILLO — The Saltillo Lady Lions (No. 12 TGCA/No. 11 TABC) knocked off the Avinger Lady Indians (No. 10 TGCA/NO. 22 TABC) on Tuesday in District 20-A action.

Jordyn Dowell had 22 points, Haylee Downs 11, LaNyiah Williams 10 and Charlene Kress nine for Avinger, which moved to 23-5 overall and 8-2 in district play.

WILLS POINT 29, QUINLAN FORD 27

QUINLAN — In District 13-4A action, the Wills Point Lady Tigers edged Quinlan Ford, 29-27, in overtime.

Lacey Luna finished with 17 points to lead the way for Wills Point.
